Sculptured Technology
The client's goal in this small terrace apartment was to combine the texture of primitive elements with the posh comforts of a boutique hotel. The challenge of combining storage for computer, and audio-visual equipment, with hand a carved Indonesian dining table, African sculpture, and animal skins gave this project pleasing contrasts.
Design Tip: Reuse existing finishes, by coordinating additional work with something existing, and leaving it in place. Clients often ask us if it is possible to "save" existing flooring or cabinetry and install it in a different location as a way of saving money. Sadly, this rarely works out very well. However, when the existing finish or cabinetry can be saved in place, as was the case with the stone floor in this terrace apartment, real savings can be realized.
